All roads lead to... 'data'
You've reached that point, you realize that tomorrows' world will be more digital than ever. You feel like you can not miss taking part in this evolution. You have to do something, but what. One thing is certain, doing nothing is not an option..
Digital information, or 'data', is everywhere. They are continuously generated and can even generate themselves nowadays. It's no surprise that anybody who uses data has a competitive advantage to those who don't.
To abstract? Still difficult to grasp?

Let's take a webshop. Active for already a few years, it started small but revenue kept increasing year on year.
That growth is linked to the 'top-service' that the owner is giving his clients. However, for him that service is always giving the biggest options and choices to buy. His products need to be as exclusive as possible. Therefor, the oner spends a lot of time searching and buying those products. Giving more options means more sales, no?
Searching for new product takes time, and time is money. In this case, it's an expenses for the webshop. Next to the owners time, there is the cost of storing & shipping the goods. Because the webshop delivers fast as part of the service, this means that the show has to keep a lot of SKU's (stock keeping units). This can not be underestimated.
But, business is going well. Profit is made and our customers are satisfied. Ideal no? Or not... Could we do better. More with less? And mostof all, can 'data' answer that question?

What kind of data do we have?
Well, we've got our accounting data...It's primarely finance data but we also have some logistics because we keep track of our stock. And we have the scores oour cusomers give us (sometimes).
Where
Where is this data?
Well, in our accounting software database. And we keep e-mails from our cusomers when they send us messages on our consumer survey.
How
How are we going to use that information?
Well, first we have to make sure we get a hold on themso that we can start using them for our specific need.
After that, we will load and manipulate that data so that we have them continously at our disposal exatly like we want or need them.
When
How long is all of this going to take?
Well, that depends on the complexity of it all. Both getting the data and manipulating can be a complex task.
Is your data stored in the cloud or locally at your accountants database?
Is this necessary?
Do I need this whole process?
Do I wait?
Maybe it's better to wait and see what others are doing?
